Miss Karen

Enthusiastic about both music and children, Karen creates a fun, comfortable setting that encourages engagement and supports each child's musical development.

"Miss Karen" never imagined how many metropolitan Detroit families would sing "Hello Everybody" in Farmington Hills when she discovered Music Together® in 1993! Twenty-three years ago, Karen took the Music Together teacher training with Ken Guilmartin (Founder & Director of Music Together LLC and coauthor of Music Together) and established Musicmakers Center, the FIRST Music Together center in Michigan. Karen has enjoyed teaching Music Together ever since! Karen has increased her expertise and renewed her enthusiasm for Music Together through continuing education in Music Together with Lili Levinowitz, Ph.D. (Director of Research, Music Together LLC, coauthor of Music Together, and Professor of Music Education at Rowan University), participation in Music Together Directors' Weekends, participation in local Songs & Skills Workshops, and LOTS of teaching experience.

Karen also has 36 years teaching experience as a Suzuki method violin teacher. Current violin teaching is through Musicmakers Center, at Blue Lake Suzuki Family Camp each June, and at local Suzuki workshops. Karen's studio includes 24 students, ages 4-16, beginners through advanced. Karen has studied Books 1-7 with renowned Suzuki Teacher Trainers around the country. Performances with her husband, Eric, a pianist/organist, are very special opportunities.

Word-of-wisdom to parents of young children from Karen ~ Treasure each step along the way, and make music part of every day and every milestone. Sooner than you can imagine, your babies will be grown. Give them the gift of music and they will appreciate the music around them for the rest of their lives!

Karen's daughters continue the family tradition, sharing music with their own children. Grandsons Sam and Eli are Musicmakers alumni and 1 year old granddaughter Felicity now soaks up the Musicmakers fun!
